2010 Venture ride
We depart the UK on Saturday 28th August 2010, returning on Monday 13thSeptember, utilising the European Bike Express coach & bike trailer service. We will cycle with panniers in stages of 20 - 50 miles from Narbonne to Orange, spending several days each at our bases of Lezignan-Corbieres, Pezenas, Castries, Uzes and nearby Carpentras. This format allows considerable flexibility on the 'free days' for exploring the surrounding countryside, taking in quiet lanes and some challenging hills. There will also be the opportunity to visit some of the region's wide variety of historical and cultural attractions, not to mention the countless vineyards.
The SPOKES CTC 2010 Cycling Venture comprises a tour of the Mediterranean hinterland in the south of France, taking in the Corbieres, Haut Languedoc Regional Park, Rhone Valley and Western Provence, culminating in the challenge of Mont Ventoux, over 1,600 metres from base to summit, and described by Lance Armstrong as 'the toughest single climb in France'. The event has attracted a total of 16 participants (14 cyclists), and bookings have now closed.
